Becca’s Story

Becca Lilly was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor in 1991 at age 11. With courage and her characteristic spunk, Becca overcame countless challenges over the next six years and lived a life full of energy, compassion, and commitment to others.

Becca lost her battle with cancer in June 1997. Her family and friends started Becca's Run in October of the same year, with run proceeds aiding children (and their families) struggling with cancer.

Rebecca's courageous story was chronicled in a series of six articles in the Washington Post Health section.

Each year in the United States, there are approximately 12,400 children younger than 19 years of age who are diagnosed with cancer. About 1 in 300 boys and 1 in 333 girls will develop cancer before their 20 birthday.
